Identifying the Knights. Database Management and Authority Files for Person and Family Names in HMML’s Reading Room

Identifying the early modern members of Order Saint John Jerusalem remains difficult due to lack an online database or any other search tool including from each Langues. This situation is compounded by diverse languages, naming traditions, and repeated use first names family successive generations in aristocratic families. To overcome this challenge when cataloging archival material, Malta Study Center has adopted Resource Description Access (RDA) standards catalogue collections that have been microfilmed digitized since 1973. The authority files for personal databases, such as HMML Reading Room, will provide researchers with advanced metadata resources find across different libraries archives.
